Charlestown has another condo development on its waterfront as of last week when Parris Landing at the Navy Yard. opened, bringing a taste of style to the Navy Yard.
World-renowned designer Philippe Starck and his London-based company Yoo have taken a designer's approach to the historic Navy Yard, infusing their 367-unit property with common and outdoor spaces with cosmopolitan design.
Targeted at sophisticated buyers who want to reside in one of Boston's most historic neighborhoods, Parris Landing at the Charlestown Navy Yard buildings contain a mix of studio, one and two bedroom and two bedroom plus study homes plus a select group of two and three story residences. Parris Landing has prices ranging from mid $200,000s to high $600,000s. Each homes price will include its parking for one car in the property's multi-story garage.
Starck a designer known for his unique approach to interiors, architecture, furniture, objects and industrial design oversaw the project. His work can be seen in the Mondrian Hotel in Los Angeles, the Royalton in New York, the Delano in Miami. Philippe Starck and Yoo have redefined living spaces in America’s greatest cities. In New York they will turn the original J.P. Morgan headquarters office building in the heart of Wall Street into residences called Downtown by Starck. In South Beach, they designed a condominium tower, the Icon, in one of the most popoular tropical hot spots.
At Parris Landing, Starck has combined modern ambiance with minimalist style, designing Parris Landings interiors, common areas, the atrium, a health club and entrance ways with a distinctive combination of materials, lighting and artwork, the influence of which will carry into the tremendous open space surrounding the buildings.
"Philippe Starck’s creativity and talent in residential projects is perfectly matched for this unique property. We are fortunate to have an icon working at Parris Landing," said Kevin J. Ahearn, president of Otis & Ahearn, exclusive sales and marketing agent for Parris Landing.
In addition to residential amenities like a business center, Parris Landing offers one of the city's few outdoor pools, a health club with sauna and treatment room, on-site garage parking, dramatic atrium spaces, a doorman station, a peaceful courtyard, dynamic spaces for entertaining and a scenic commute to Boston’s financial district via water taxi.
"Parris Landing is an amazing property," said Yoo Chairman John Hitchcox. "It is unusual to find a historic set of buildings with such vast common spaces. We are honored to bring Philippe and Yoo’s design to one of Boston’s best locations. We believe that good design should be available to everyone, from first-time home buyer's to those who can afford to live anywhere. Parris Landing is one of the rare properties that appeals to us all."
Parris Landings namesake, Alexander Parris, was involved with other important Boston buildings like Quincy Market, St. Paul's church and Massachusetts General Hospital. He also designed lighthouses from Florida to Maine. Constitution Quarters was first developed as residential apartment buildings in 1980-1981 as the first phase of the Navy Yards redevelopment.
The property was developed by Carlyle CQ Boston L.P., a venture between The Carlyle Group and Draper and Kramer, Incorporated. The development team includes Carlyle Realty Partners, owners of Strada234 in the North End, Draper and Kramer, Incorporated and Otis & Ahearn,
