Plans were announced last week to develop the huge gothic style Hoffman building on Lovejoy wharf in the North End. Bordering the Leonard Zakim Bunker Hill bridge the wharf currently houses the Charlestown Navy Yard and Federal Courthouse ferry terminal. The building a massive four story brick structure that has been almost empty for years will undergo a make over and so will the wharf and the harbor front in front of it. The building and the wharf are next to the newly opened Paul Revere Park that sits on the harbor between Boston and Charlestown.
Ajax Investment Partners plan to renovate the run down building into condos and rebuild the LoveJoy dock and turn LoveJoy Wharf into an active waterfront. The plans hope to take the MBTA commuter boat depot and incorporate it into a large and more lively waterfront transportation hub which would include water taxi berths at the rebuilt wharf, space for private boats and connections to the Harborwalk.
They hope that the development will make it easier for the public to access this portion of the Boston waterfront.
